Win a Pair of Passes to KEEN Digital Summit!!

Really – who wouldn’t love an excuse to visit Nashville?

Nashville2

There’s a new kind of conference coming to Nashville in October, and it has something for everyone.

KEEN Digital Summit is a three-day networking, digital media and brand development conference that will serve as the Omni Nashville's grand opening event from Oct. 24-27. It's an official partnership with the city of Nashville, and there are four tracks--family, technology, food/drink, travel--all of which will bring some of the top innovators in their fields to Nashville to share the latest in digital and mobile technologies, while offering a venue for connecting digital influencers with brands.

I love this concept of covering so many topics, because let’s face it: Twitter has ruined my attention span. I’m used to reading 140 characters of philosophy, then seeing a sunset photo, then reading a vaguely angsty statement, then laughing out loud at a witty remark.

And I kinda love it that way.

So with the four focuses of this conference, I can jump back and forth as my attention span demands, learning from the top industry experts of each one. And regardless of how you use Social Media, you are certain to find a track that fits you. Plus, as a bonus, you will get to enjoy the luxury of being one of the first to experience a brand new Omni Hotel!

Giveaway - Y’all Connect Conference! {$129 Value}

Yall Connect copy

On July 23, Birmingham will once again have a major social media conference: Y’all Connect. Focused on helping companies use social media tools wisely and efficiently, many experts will be teaching the basics of corporate storytelling.

The conference’s director, Wade Kwon, explains the value in this skill: “Many bloggers already know how to tell a good story about their kids or their lives, but businesses often stumble when talking about their own histories. We can help. Instead of selling and marketing, they will find ways to attract fans and customers through good stories and strong engagement.”

The speakers at Y’all Connect will include familiar Birmingham icons as well as national experts, all of whom utilize social media tools with great expertise. So far, this fantastic group includes James Spann, Ike Pigott, Andrea Weckerle, Nichole Kelly, Peter Shankman, Whitney Breaux, Shelly Kramer and Mack Collier.

"Y'all Connect is a conference aimed at CEOs and marketing managers who want to show how their companies stand out,” Kwon explains. “They may have used blogging and Facebook and Twitter, but aren't sure how to use them wisely and efficiently.”

This conference isn’t focused on theory and motivational speeches - there will be practical takeaways so that the attendees can leave and immediately put new ideas to use to expand their business’ social media platform.

"We expect 500 attendees, with half coming from all across Alabama and the rest coming from out of state. I can't wait to show off my hometown of Birmingham," Kwon states.

There will be a kickoff party on the evening of July 22, then on July 23, sessions and speakers will be scheduled from 8:30-6:00, followed by a closing night party. As such, there will be significant amounts of time for learning and networking.

The conference will be held at the Birmingham Jefferson Civic Center, and lodging will be available at a discounted rate in the adjoining Sheraton Hotel.

If you would like to attend, I have one conference pass to give away! To enter, follow the instructions in the Rafflecopter Widget below:

Atlanta Food and Wine Festival - and Giveaway!

Atl FW

Oftentimes, the South gets a bad rap from other parts of the nation. And, although we do like getting the respect that we deserve, sometimes we don’t mind living in a well-kept secret of beautiful forests, striking mountains (Yes! We have mountains!), the best beaches in the world, and the most friendly, welcoming people you’ll ever encounter.

However, one secret that we haven’t kept so well is our food. Because something that amazing just can’t be hidden.

Barbeque, grits, southern seafood, fried okra, chicken and dumplings, cobbler, banana pudding… the list is endless, and should be making you hungry about now. Southern food is comforting, friendly, and absolutely deserving to be celebrated.

And in less than a month, celebrations will occur!

The second annual Atlanta Food & Wine Festival will be a four-day extravaganza of southern food immersion.

Although “Atlanta” is in the name, it’s only the location: the founders, Elizabeth Feichter and Dominique Love, are committed to ensuring that every part of the south is equally represented and celebrated. They have an all-star Advisory Council of 70 highly celebrated chefs (all of which have been recognized with major national culinary honors) that hail from fifteen states.

The Advisory Council is deeply involved in every aspect of planning the event, so they have combined their expertise with everything they learned at last year’s event to create an even more unforgettable southern culinary experience.

The three focus areas of the festival will be Old Traditions (soul food, barbecue, Cajun and Creole, etc.), New Traditions (the fusing of Southern food with Asian, Greek, French, Latin, etc.), and Imports and Inspirations (“Other Southern” – food from other southern regions around the world, including Southern Europe, South Africa, South America, etc.).

The event has many different aspects for all levels of foodies and enthusiasts, including:

Tasting Tents - There will be fifteen different food trails, which highlight all of the different flavors of a particular food. Some of these trails include fried chicken, barbeque, seafood, southern snacks, and southern sweets.

Seminars, Demonstrations, and Panel Discussions - During each time slot, they have many different options for the foodie who wants to learn. Some of these sessions include Cast Iron Cooking, Techniques for Biscuits, Grits, and Cornbread, Southern Cakes and Pies, World Class Coffee at Home, and Southern Chemistry.

Dinners - During the evening hours, local chefs will host out-of-town chefs for a series of special dinners, parties and southern-style soirees. One such event will be a “Pig-Out, Southern-Style”, where the 70 chefs of the Advisory Council will be hosting and not cooking, which means that they will be interacting with the guests and helping to create the epitome of a foodie atmosphere. There are dozens of these amazing dinners that can be bought in a weekend package or à la carte.

They have a wide range of participation options, including day passes, three-day passes, tasting tent passes, dinners and events, and the ultimate VIP Connoisseur experience.

And if you would like to experience this for yourself, I have a pair of Day Passes for Sunday, May 13 to give away to a lucky winner!

This prize is a $360 value!!

If you would love to attend Atlanta Food & Wine Festival, go to this post on my other blog and enter!

But hurry! This giveaway is only open until Midnight, Monday, April 23.

I hope to see you there!

Second Annual Predict America's Pick Contest!

I don't often duplicate content between my two blogs, but I'm so excited about getting to host this contest and give away some great prizes, that I can't help but share here, also!! You can either enter here or at Grasping for Objectivity.

PredictAmericasPick

The most fun contest I held last year was Predict America’s Pick.

(At least it was for me, because I got to create a spreadsheet to keep up with the rankings that rose to new levels of complete geekdom.)

So clearly, I want to offer it again.

I almost didn’t make the “deadline”, though, which I completely blame on Downton Abbey – we got hopelessly behind on American Idol due to our extended and obsessive trip to the Abbey.

But once we finished every available episode, we staunchly set our sights on getting caught up on Idol, even though we both pined for Mary, Matthew, and Edith to be the judges and The Dowager Countess to replace Ryan.

(And that’s saying something, since Ryan is on my Top Five Celebrity Crush List.)

On to the contest.

The time has come to choose your rankings. But not without the promise of great prizes, of course. This year, I have $400 worth of prizes!!!

Novica, one of my favorite gift-buying sites in all the world, has kindly agreed to sponsor this year’s contest again! Novica is a fabulous company that partners with National Geographic to help give international artisans access to sell their unique and unbelievably unique creations online. They have handmade jewelry (my favorite – I wear their jewelry all the time!), unique gifts, home décor, furniture, paintings, and much more. Every time I go to their site, I literally get lost in the midst of beautiful things for hours.

Some of my favorite Novica purchases have been this fabulous peridot necklace,

IMG_9849

And this gorgeous necklace and earring set.

IMG_0465

Novica also just opened a gifts and jewelry home party division, NOVICA Live. It’s a great opportunity to make money and help artisans all around the world through fun parties!

So. There will be two prizes: A Winner’s Prize and a Participation Prize.

The Winner’s Prize, a $300 Gift Certificate to Novica.com, will be awarded to the person that is closest in their predictions to what actually occurs in this season’s American Idol.

The Participation Prize, a $100 Gift Certificate to Novica.com, will go to a randomly selected participant in the contest.

So whether you know anything about American Idol or not, you have a chance to win!

How to enter:

To enter to win the $300 Grand Prize:

I have created an entry form with the top 12 contestant’s names on it. All you have to do is put those contestants in order, from 1-12, of how YOU think they will fare in the contest (1 being the winner, and 12 being the first person eliminated).

(You actually don’t even have to watch single episode of Idol to enter – just guess! You might do better than the rest of us, since America can be a bit unpredictable.)

If you need a handy contestant reference guide, click here.

You only have three days to fill out an entry form – the contest will be closed at the start of the first top 12 performance on Wednesday night, March 14th.

CLICK HERE to go to the entry form.

I will keep up with everyone’s picks and will publish a leaderboard each week after eliminations – there will be a button on my sidebar where you can check the current leaderboard. The person with the most accurate picks after the final show will win the $300 Gift Certificate!!

If there is a tie, the Grand Prize will go to the person with the most eligible participation prize entries (to be explained below). If there is still a tie, one of the tying winners will be selected randomly.

To enter to win the $100 Participation Prize:

You can be entered into the participation prize anytime between now and Wednesday evening by helping get the word out about the contest! You get one entry for each of the following:

  • Tweet, Facebook, or Blog about the contest.

  • Follow NOVICA on Facebook or Twitter.

  • Go to NOVICA.com and see what you would pick if you won.

  • Follow me on Facebook or Twitter.

  • Subscribe to or Follow my blog.

  • Enter to win the Grand Prize (your entry for the grand prize counts as one participation entry as well).

*** To get your entries, be sure to leave a comment on this post for each entry that you earned by doing the above items!!! ***

Also, you get FIVE entries for each person that reports that they found out about the contest from you! (There’s a field on the entry form for them to give you credit.)

The Participation winner will be chosen randomly from all of the Participation Entries.

So, Start Entering!! And Good Luck!!

Disclosure: I was not compensated in any way for my nice words about NOVICA – my opinions are always my own, and their site is heavenly.

Shop Birmingham - and a Giveaway!

I truly adore the ever-increasing focus on shopping locally over the past few years. Alabama has an unbelievable wealth of local merchants, artisans, and restaurants, and the more we support these businesses, the more of our money stays in Alabama and, therefore, makes Alabama an even better place to live.

One organization that is making it easier to shop locally is ShopBirmingham.com. Shop Birmingham is an awesome resource featuring menus, gift certificates, products, services, and general contact information for businesses in the Birmingham metro area. Their site is a great resource to help Birminghamians know where they can go to shop local, and even to be able to shop locally from their computer!

Also, it's a win-win for local merchants. At no charge, you can list your business information and up to five items for sale. It's a great way to get recognized as a local business, and to be able to easily offer online ordering! They also offer more in depth services for a fee, so you can get as much as you want out of the site.

But if you're not in Birmingham, don't despair! Shop Birmingham is expanding rapidly. They currently have two more sister sites, Shop Mountain Brook and Shop Homewood, and are planning on expanding throughout the state! Keep your eyes out for a a site near you in the future.

Shop Birmingham gave me five awesome T-Shirts to give away - they are a great way to share the love of shopping locally! And they're pretty fashionable shirts, too. They sell on their site for $20 each, and they wear very nicely.

AND, as a bonus, the five winners will be put into a drawing to possibly win two tickets to a show at the Alys Stephens Center!

If you would like to win, hop on over to my other blog and enter!! But hurry - the contest only lasts until October 31st!!

American Idol Contest - $250 in Prizes!!

I don't often duplicate content between my two blogs, but I'm so excited about getting to host this contest and give away some great prizes, that I can't help but share here, also!! You can either enter here or at Grasping for Objectivity.

PredictAmericasPick

I was skeptical about this season’s American Idol.

Could it continue without Simon?

I knew I wouldn’t miss Kara for a tenth of a second, but Simon… he made the show. The only person that would be more of an unforgivable loss than Simon would be Ryan, whom I might have a so-obsessive-that-I-dream-about-him tiny TV-Crush on.

If Ryan ever quits the show, I’m quitting it too.

But I was surprised by this season – pleasantly so. The show has actually been more … calming. Without Simon around, the judges are still entertaining, but they’re never cruelly blunt. It’s a happier place now, and I do like happy places.

Plus, I’m eternally entertained by the fact that one of the judges is the spitting image of an older and even more washed up Captain Jack Sparrow…

Steven Tyler Captain Jack Sparrow

And so, to celebrate a fun new type of Idol, I’ve decided to have a contest!

And, since no contest is complete without prizes, I made sure that the prizes are FANTASTIC.

(I’m totally wishing I could win, but I can’t, lucky for you!!)

NOVICAY’all know how much I adore NOVICA – I feel like I talk about them all of the time. But in case you’ve missed it, NOVICA is an AMAZING site full of millions of things that I want to own, and I promise that you will, too.

Partnered with National Geographic, NOVICA connects artisans all over the world with us through their awesomely easy-to-use website and their NOVICA Live home shows. And I am constantly stunned by their surprisingly affordable prices! My favorites are their necklaces and earrings – I’ve bought several, and the quality is amazing!! In fact, I’m wearing one of my favorite NOVICA items in my latest Twitter/Facebook picture.

They have so many things that I have literally spent hours browsing their site. But if you don’t have time for that, they have a great Unique Gifts page that helps categorize and sort their products for finding the perfect gift – for someone else or yourself!

So. NOVICA has graciously agreed to sponsor this contest… are you ready for this?

The GRAND PRIZE, which will go to the winner of the contest, is a $200 NOVICA Gift Certificate!!!!

And the Participation Prize, which will go to one randomly chosen participant in the contest, is a $50 NOVICA Gift Certificate!

I’m so excited to be able to offer you such a significant amount of money with which to explore the worlds of awesomeness at NOVICA.

So.. here’s how it’s going to work:

To enter to win the $200 Grand Prize:

I have created an entry form with the top 13 contestant’s names on it. All you have to do is put those contestants in order, from 1-13, of how YOU think they will fare in the contest (1 being the winner, and 13 being the first person eliminated).

(You actually don’t even have to watch single episode of Idol to enter – just guess! You might do better than the rest of us, since America can be a bit unpredictable.)

You only have six days in which to fill out an entry form – the contest will be closed at the start of the first top 13 performance – Wednesday night, March 9th.

CLICK HERE to go to the entry form.

I will keep up with everyone’s picks and will publish a leaderboard each week after eliminations. The person with the most accurate picks after the final show will win the $200 Gift Certificate!!

If there is a tie, the Grand Prize will go to the person with the most eligible participation prize entries (to be explained below). If there is still a tie, one of the tying winners will be selected randomly.

To enter to win the $50 Participation Prize:

You can be entered into the participation prize anytime between now and next Wednesday by helping get the word out! You get one entry for each of the following:

  • Tweet about the contest, linking back to this post.
  • Facebook about the contest, linking back to this post.
  • Blog about the contest, linking back to this post.
  • Follow NOVICA on Facebook or Twitter.
  • Follow me on Facebook or Twitter.
  • Subscribe to or Follow my blog.
  • Enter to win the Grand Prize (your entry for the grand prize counts as one participation entry as well).

*** Be sure to leave a comment on this post for each entry that you earned by doing the above items!!! ***

Also, you get FIVE entries for each person that says they found out about the contest from you! (There’s a field on the entry form for them to give you credit.)

The Participation winner will be chosen randomly from all of the Participation Entries.

And now that I’ve completely confused everyone…

Start Entering!! And Good Luck!!

Disclaimer: I was not compensated in any way for my nice words about NOVICA – my opinions are always my own, and I seriously love their site.

Giveaway - $75 NOVICA.com Shopping Spree!!

NOVICA

NOVICA.com is a thrilling site that I discovered a couple of months ago, and I have been totally obsessed with them ever since.

They partner with National Geographic and act as a liaison between international artisans and the online world. They offer three different categories of art - Home Decor, Handmade Jewelry, and Paintings.

On each product that you look at, you will find a photo of the artisan and their story. It is so amazing to get to experience their stories in this way!

I personally love their jewelry offerings, and often find myself totally lost in browsing all of the options. All of their jewelry comes in regionally-specific and very exquisite jewelry boxes,

IMG_0460

IMG_9848
many are made with precious and semi-precious stones,

IMG_0465

And they come with a hand-written note from the artisan group from that country:

IMG_0467

The amazing Birmingham Gourmet Burger joint, Baha Burgers, will be providing $10 gift cards to five randomly selected participants. You don’t have to be on the winning team to win one of these – you just have to participate in the Carnival.

And the grand prize is provided by Taziki’s Mediterranean Cafe – one winner will be chosen at random from the winning team to get a tailgate party catered by Taziki’s for 10 people!

Thank you SO much to Baha and Taziki's for their wonderful prizes!!!

Here’s how the Carnival works:

You can score points for your team in three different ways:

1. Field Goal: You score three points for your team if you put your team’s button on the sidebar of your blog (buttons will be below). Be sure to comment on this post or the next post that you added the button so I can properly add your field goal!

2. Touchdown: You score seven points for your team if you write a blog post about your football experience/team/thoughts with your team’s button at the top, and you link up to THIS POST (the link-up is at the bottom).

3. Extra Point: You can score one extra point for your team by tweeting or facebooking about the Football Carnival. Be sure to comment on this post or the next post that you tweeted or facebooked!

You can link up your posts anytime between now and Monday, September 6th. The winning team will be announced on Tuesday, September 7th, as well as all of the prize winners.

As far as the prizes go, you will get one entry into the drawing for the prizes for each point you score for your team.

And, as a bonus, you can get extra entries into the drawings by:

Again, let me know that you earned any of these entries in a comment so that I can credit them to you!! You can put all of your extra entries and information into one comment, as I'm keeping a spreadsheet of points and entries.

Be sure to watch Twitter and the top of this blog for score updates!!

Here are the codes for the buttons. To grab one, just copy and paste the code below the button of your choice. You can either paste it into a blog post or a sidebar (for Blogger, choose an HTML/Javascript Gadget). Let me know if you need any help!
