Welcome to Alabama Bloggers!!

Hello!

My name is Rachel, I live in Birmingham, and I stay busy blogging at Grasping for Objectivity in my Subjective Life. I love blogging and getting to know other bloggers by reading their blogs. However, I have discovered a major gap in blog interaction: There is no blog networking site for Alabama!

Every day I am amazed when I run into another awesome Alabama blogger - you are innumerable, and I want to know you!

So I created this site. It will have a LONG way to grow, but you have to start somewhere, right?

Here are some of the things that I hope to accomplish at Alabama Bloggers:
  • First and foremost, I see this as a place for Alabama bloggers to convene, meet like-minded bloggers, find blogging friends, be entertained, and ultimately be a centralized meeting place for all of us.

  • There will be local interest posts, reviews of events, and opportunities to link up your blog posts on events and places around Alabama.

  • You will have the opportunity to have your blog posts featured here, or even be a recurring contributor.

  • There will be local contests and giveaways. Which, of course, means that if you have a local (or non-local) product, you can donate items to be featured and given away and benefit from the amazing the win/win/win of blog advertising!

  • There is "The List", which groups all Alabama Bloggers that have joined the site by cities and regions in Alabama.

  • And there will definitely be blogger meet-ups and parties!
However, today is just a start. And to start it off, let's have an introduction time.

You know, one of those uncomfortable, cheesy, "go around the room and introduce yourself" moments.

I'm going to put a Mister Linky on here to link up your blog to make visiting easy, but also be sure and leave a comment on this post and tell us about who you are .

I'll start us off:

As I said, I'm Rachel of Grasping for Objectivity in my Subjective Life. I post there at least once a day, but I also put my "seconds" on a blog called B-Sides. I also have a weekly column at 5 Minutes for Parenting called A Dose of Humor.

My main goal in blogging is to document our lives (and anything else that pops into my head) in the most entertaining, and hopefully even humorous, way possible.

Besides my blogging, I am 27 years old, a wife to my wonderful husband, and mother to a precious two year old daughter, Ali. I stay at home with her, but during her naptimes, work at home for two companies - doing accounting and human resources.

So now, please introduce yourself!! Also, please feel free to share any ideas you have for this site, any participation you would like to offer, or pretty much anything else!! I will need all of your help in turning this into the community that it has potential to be!

As you add your comments and linkies, I will add you to the "The List", which is grouped by area and available on the sidebar.

Also, PLEASE spread the word! Tweet, Blog, Facebook, Digg, Stumble, Kirtsy, whatever you use, let's get the word out that there's a new place for Alabama Bloggers to hang out!!

Be sure to visit the other bloggers who have introduced themselves - there's no better way to network than to reach out!

Also, please be sure to follow by clicking the button on the left, and subscribe if you use a reader. There will be much more going on here soon!

I look forward to visiting your blogs!

I've been obsessed with how media affect us ever since the mid 1970s. OverCoffeeMedia seeks to make sense of the gut-wrenching transition that we are seeing as the print gives way to ... what? That's the question. The answers are still fuzzy.

Hi,... I started my blog back in May and had no blogging experience whatsoever. I still don't have a lot but it is fun. Mine isn't centered around one certain thing or event, so it gets kind of random at times. Alabama football, supporting mom and pop stores, local events dominate what my blog is. Ans sometimes those random thoughts that pop in my head.

I like to write and I love to take photos, and somethings are better suited for my personal blog. My musings on home decor, couponing, and our life is not really material for my photography blog. LOL!

I also read other's blogs daily. I just love seeing what other people do, think, etc... Such a great way to connect with others with similar interests. :)

Greetings and salutations to the denizens of Birmingham and the rest of Alabama! This is the inaugural post of The Birmingham Skews—Birmingham’s lone voice crying out in a night as black as wet newspaper ink against our awful hometown newspaper, The Birmingham News.

Do you remember when The News was worth reading? Do you remember when you could count on at least some good reporting from The News? I see a downward trajectory in their standards as of late. Is it just me?

Maybe The News needs a little medicine—someone to hold them accountable when they let their collective tongues wag, when they slip some salacious non sequitur into a story, when they make promises or accusations they can’t back up. That’s why we’re here.

Well, I am a little late getting here, so probably, no one will see this...Haha!

Anyway, Rachel, we met today at ALsocme event. I have a website with two themes. The first theme is a homeschool resource. I love to help new homeschoolers as well as share ideas with veterans. We have been homeschooling for 7 years now. My husband and I have been married for almost 16 years and have 4 beautiful children.

My second theme for my blog is helping families find their purpose, write down their 100 family values, their mission and vision statement and then I offer them some tools to pass that down to future generations. We want things for our family now, so why not be certain our family line knows all we want them to? So, to sum it up...Intentional parenting is what my site is about. I would love for people to follow it and get involved with me discovering ways to build our families into a team, the team it was created to be!

Hi! My name is Will, and I'm a third-generation dairy farmer from Lamar County.

With less than 70 operating dairy farms in a state of over 4.5 million people, it's not a reach to say that the average Alabamian doesn't have a good grasp on what daily dairy farm life is all about. I try to use my blog to share what we do in an easy-to-understand (and sometime entertaining...I hope) way. I try to include a fair dose of photographs and occasional videos of both our cows and our crops.
I hope you will check out my blog, and feel free to ask any questions you have about my family's dairy farm or about modern agriculture in general. Thanks, and have a "dairy" good day!

Hey, I hope I'm doing this right. As my wife and I began to enlist prayer warriors for my (mono-amniotic) twin girls...we began a blog in order to update and keep our prayer partners informed. Since starting our blog, so many have told us that they love to read our updates and that they have been encouraged by our faith. The funny thing is, we're learning to trust God like we've never trusted Him before as we depend on Him every day. God is showing us just how strong and mighty He really is. So with that my blogging career began. Our ultimate goal through our site is to bring glory to God's name as well as share our story with as many praying people and churches that we can.

My name is Samir and I own the car and bike enthusiast web site Huntsville Car Scene.com. Every week I create event coverage for our vast number of our local events in the North Alabama area. It's like a e-publication for all the local gearheads. There's a calendar of events, a discussion forum, and over 100,000 photos from local events to look at almost all taken by me. :)

It would be very cool to have a get together to meet fellow bloggers! My uncle owns the Baymont Inn and Suites in Madison and I'm sure he'd let us use the meeting room.

I can't wait to read some these blogs. As for me, I was a wine salesman or a fine dining restaurant manager for the last ten or so years. I recently started a new career in real estate as restaurant hours dictate that you never see your child once they start school. I enjoy real estate, but I miss talking about wine and food. To that end: www.mightstainyourshirt.com where I can blather on about wine, food, meth apparently, and anything else that strikes me. I look forward to meeting you. You'll know me by my pleas for drupal technical help.

I just found out about this site from reading Carol Marks blog post today. I found Carol's blog after we both attended the Alabama Writers'Conclave last year (which I will be going to again this year - July 20-22 in Huntsville).

I started my blog on New Year's Eve, 2009 - it's an odd mix of poetry, politics, and spirituality with periodic nods to Bob Dylan, whose song, "Not Dark Yet" inspired the title of my blog.

Hi, I am Steven Stiefel. I am a professional photographer and adjunct professor of strategic communications. I am a single dad, Auburn grad/fan, and a creative writer with a progressive leaning. I create images for magazines, book covers, calendars, etc., so a lot of what I blog about are shoots I am doing or images I want to share. Just a head's up: I do shoot with a lot of models. I don't shoot anything tasteless, but I wouldn't want to offend anyone with images from a swimwear calendar, etc. So if you are easily offended, other blogs on here might be of greater interest.

I live with my wife of almost 40 years in Empire.
We love the beach, the Southside of Birmingham,

I blog daily. The only time I've missed since December of 2005 was when the storms of April 27th and a storm in March of this year, blew our lights to Georgia.
My blog, Life 101 is like a daily journal, but I use that as an idea generator for the columns I write for various newspapers in Alabama, Mississippi, and Georgia.
I'm a member of Alabama Media Professionals, and the Alabama Writer's Conclave.
I won three awards this year in the Alabama Press Association's Better Newspaper Contest for stories I wrote for the Starnes Publications in Birmingham.
My wife Jilda and I are also singer songwriters. We play festivals and coffeehouses around the south.
