I'm an extraordinarily sentimental person. I love being able to re-visit the same places year after year. So when something changes or gets rebuilt or closes, I just hate it. Even if I didn't like it THAT much, after it's closed, I sure convince myself that I did!
I guess it's that whole "you want what you can't have" thing.
What's worse is that my husband and I seem to have a curse: all places important to us close. For instance: Sarris' Steakhouse, the location of our wedding rehearsal dinner, is now the ever-so-very-classy "Love Stuff".
I wrote this post about our sad, but yet oddly humorous curse.
So, my question is: What do you miss most that is no longer around, or just different than it used to be? Feel free to link in if you have a post about your favorite memories, or comment in your favorite places that are no longer around.
The Flush in Auburn.
ReplyDeleteGreen Hills Grille and this awesome Italian restaurant in Huntsville.
It all centers around food for me, apparently.
This is a tough one, but if I had to answer one place I would say my family's restaurant in Mobile... which was named Constantine's. :-)
ReplyDeleteI miss so much of the old B'ham. The train station even though it was torn down when I was really young, it's a shame it's gone.
ReplyDeleteThe old Eastwood Mall -- now that's a great memory. The fish in the pond at Eastwood Mall.... anyone remember that?!
The old HangOut in Gulf Shores -- another one of those 'before my time' things, but whoa!
Krispy Kreme by Eastwood Mall -- now Olive Garden sits in that location.
Crestwood Pool -- grew up swimming in that pool.
I could go on and on and on, but I'll stop
I grew up in Homewood. Of course, Homewood is still around, but it's SO DIFFERENT! The movie theater my brother & I used to go to on Green Springs has been turned into an antique mall (or that's what it was last time I looked). The park has been totally redone. SoHo...need I say more? Even the little bridge I used to turn on to go home is no longer a bridge! And while I really like the "new" Brookwood mall, I miss my old stomping ground.
ReplyDeleteI am NOT in Alabama but joined this group since I was born an raised in AL for over 20 yrs. After college I moved away since my hubby was in the Air Force but I always say that my heart is there and one day we will be back to live..anyhow, I think the one thing I miss the most if Trade Day in Marshall County. My girlfriend and I were just talking about things that I missed yesterday when this came up...I miss seeing crops, fields, farms and barnhouses too...imagine that!
ReplyDeleteThe Globe in downtown Northport, and Bama Bino's pizza in Tuscaloosa. I also miss the beach as it was when I was growing up, before all the condos. And Ray & Tom's restaurant in Jackson.
